The Local Artists I Decorate My Home With
I recently decided to install a gallery wall in my living room. With so many amazing local artists here in Kentucky, it was not difficult at all to find lots of art to use. The wall is turning out great, and I can’t wait to add more local art. But for now, here’s some of the wonderful artists I featured on my wall!
Artist #1: Modern Art By Rachelle
Dawna “Rachelle” Gaither is a self-taught artist with an eclectic mix of subjects approached with a modern, contemporary, minimalist style. She moved to Central KY at 18 and has been here ever since! She has always loved art, and was said to be a child you could take anywhere as long as she had a coloring book and crayons. She cites her greatest accomplishment as being a mother to two of her own children and two “bonus” children. While loving art, she has enjoyed several jobs over the years and often jokes she “doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up”. I am absolutely OBSESSED with her minimalistic women pieces that are the center of my gallery wall.
Artist #2: Bobby Shiffet
Bobby Shiffet is the owner of Frames on Main in Paris, Kentucky and this shop acts as a gorgeous gallery for his photography. He was born in Tennessee but moved to Kentucky in 1983. He uses his photography to tell stories about the Thoroughbred industry and the “long forgotten landscape of small town living”.
Artist #3: Emma Puckett
Emma is a Louisville painter and illustrator. She made one of my favorite prints I’ve ever gotten, this Persephone print above. Her prints are very geometric and colorful, featuring mostly people and animals.
Artist #4: Connor Query
Connor is a well known (and one of my favorite) local artists. She works with so many different mediums and designs, it’s not difficult to find something for anyone in her work. She most often paints animals, including pet portraits. I was subscribed to her local artist subscription box earlier this year, and got this gorgeous horse print in one of my boxes. This print is so perfect for any horse country fan and fit in my wall so well.
Artist #5: Brenda Salyers
Brenda Salyers works out of Frames on Main in Winchester creating gorgeous horse and small town Kentucky paintings, as well as featuring other local artists (and doing some amazing framing work). I loved including another horse themed painting into this Lexington gallery wall.
Artist #6: Rose Hayes Swope
Rose Hayes Swope sells out of Arts on Main in Winchester, Kentucky. She mainly paints “flowers, landscapes, and animals” and attributes that to her growing up in Eastern Kentucky. She prefers watercolor as her medium, and pins her style as an expressionism mix of realism and impressionism.
